Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn's Knitted Garden on Display NOW
On display this Spring in Colorful Stitches Fine Yarn's Williamsburg, VA store is the life-size exhibit of a completely hand-knitted blooming garden. The complete project fills the long front window of the store, all designed and knitted by store owner, Bonnie Burton. The goal was to provide a cheery greeting to knitters and non-knitters alike who stroll by the store or enter without realizing there's a complete wool scene in store.
The centerpiece is a 38" tall knitted birdbath with cherub fountain spouting a hand knitted water stream (worked in plastic fishing line) and thirsty birds. The knitted brick landscape surround filled with knitted gravel gives a platform for plantings of pansies, daffodils, tulips and petunias, all "planted" in knitted mounds of dirt with grass. Carnations, lavender and landscape grasses surround a knitted boulder, while morning glory vines encircle the rock. A hosta plant and woolly phlox bed complete that landscape section. A knitted watering can (although this is a garden not needing watering) and trowel accompany the scene of a seedling being planted in a knitted dirt hole.
Visit the store soon for your personal tour of the woolly posies.
