The densified laminated birch wood is considered harder than either ebony or rosewood. The wood is also twice as dense as bamboo. And in comparison to other wood needles the water absorption of these needles is so negligible that there is no chance of warping.

The shaft is smooth with a low gloss finish that lets the beauty of the wood grain show through. The join between shaft and cable is equally smooth. The point is sharp and the taper medium.
